I AM: Set Free

Can we be honest? Let’s be honest. There is so much going on in our world. Politics, social media, finances, whatever it may be for you in this season, fill in the blank. Maybe you are grieving a loss or you feel like you are not where you thought you would be. Even when you know the truth, you know all God has done for you. Maybe you are struggling with who God says you are and soon the lies creep in…

“You’re a Christian…you shouldn’t be struggling with this…”.

"Wow, what will your friends say? You can’t tell them."

"You should be just as “holy” as them."

"Just give up.”

The lies can seem louder than the truth and you soon feel so alone and the shame creeps in. Satan can be so crafty, can’t he?

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.” Ephesians 6:10-13

Our battle is not just flesh and blood, but of principalities. We have a real enemy who hates us who will twist the truth to make us believe the lies God has freed us from. It can be hard to not allow our circumstances to define us, but we cannot let the enemy win.

I am someone who has struggled with who God says they are. There is no sugar coating it, because there have been days I have been fully confident in who God says I am and there have been days the lies and deception seem louder than God’s voice.

Yet, God in His grace reminds me that I am NOT alone.

Hebrews 12:1-2  says,

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

You too are NOT alone.

Even in our struggles and our doubts, we have JESUS.

And Jesus went before us and endured the cross for us so that we would not be alone.

Jesus went to the cross to take on our guilt, our shame, and gave us new life in Him.

We can surrender our circumstances to JESUS.

We can surrender our struggles to JESUS.

We can surrender our shame to JESUS.

We can surrender it ALL to JESUS.

It is because of Jesus we are set FREE.

We do not have to carry the weight of the world or carry what God has freed us from, but we have to surrender it to HIM.

Every lie that tries to creep in. Every bait satan tries to throw at us. Every old identity that was put to death on the cross.

We surrender it all to Jesus, the One who sets us free.

When we surrender it to Him, we find our freedom in Him.

We are no longer bound, we are set FREE.

“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1
