How To Determine You Have A Pharisee Heart

Updated: Aug 2, 2023

1. When you’re unwilling to repent and have a humble heart

“But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who will repay each person according to his deeds:” Romans 2:6

2. When your truth matters more than the truth of scripture

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” 1 Timothy 2:15

3. When you’re quick to point out someone else’s issue but unwilling to see your own

“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?” Matthew 7:3

4. When you are jealous of someone else’s ministry

For what makes a distinction between you and someone else? And what do you have that grace has not given you? And if you received it as a gift, why do you boast as though there is something special about you?” 1 Corinthians 4:7

5. When you compare yourself to others and, instead of rejoicing in their spiritual climb, you discourage them from going further

“Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.” Romans 14:13

6. When you don’t have a teachable spirit and are unwilling to listen to correction

“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But he who heeds counsel is wise.” Proverbs 12:15

7. When you’re unable to see others how God sees them and instead see them through your self-righteousness

“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Philippians 2:3-4

8. When you think you’re spiritually perfect

“None is righteous, no, not one.” Romans 3:10

9. When you’re always right

“A person may think their own ways are right but the Lord weighs the heart.” Proverbs 21:2

10. When judgment is your first reaction instead of compassion

“There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you - who are you to judge your neighbor?” James 4:12
