I AM: A New Creation

By February, the excitement of resolutions often fades.

Goals feel heavier.

Motivation slips.

And some plans may already feel “failed.”

I know I struggle with this.

This year is going to be the year! I am going to lose the weight, I’m going to be more intentional with my time and not go on social media as much, I am going to read my Bible everyday and dive in deeper with God…this year I will (fill in the blank).

But life gets in the way. We get busy. We mess up once and say, "why even try?"

We let the lies of our past hold us back.

But God’s grace was never dependent on a January reset.

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning.” (Lamentations 3:22–23)

Even now, God is still working.

But Scripture reminds us that real transformation starts somewhere deeper.

“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)

Before God calls us to do more, He reminds us of who we are.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has gone, the new is here.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Your past doesn’t get to define this year.

Your failures don’t get the final word.

In Christ, you’ve already been made new.

God hasn’t just called you to better habits—He’s called you to more.

More freedom.

More purpose.

More life found in Him.

When we remain in Him, fruit follows.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me bears much fruit.” (John 15:5)

When we focus on Jesus first, everything else begins to fall into place.

Our priorities shift.

Our desires align.

Our steps become clearer.

This year, don’t strive to become someone new on your own strength.

This year, fix your eyes on Jesus.

Let Him shape your desires, direct your steps, and renew your mind.

“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.” (Philippians 1:6)

Same God.

Fresh mercy.

Still a new creation.

Jesus, thank You for new mercies and fresh grace.Help us fix our eyes on You and trust You with our steps. We surrender our plans and choose to seek You first.Remind us that You are still working and we are made new.

Amen.
